Most traders track one number: wins versus losses. They obsess over the win rate like it is the scoreboard. It is not. This morning I had one losing trade and three winners and closed more than $1,000 in the green. The losing trade did not erase the day. My process did the work.
I cover the full breakdown in the video above. Here is the thinking behind it.
Win rate is the wrong scoreboard
You can win half your trades and still be consistently profitable. You can win seven out of ten trades and still blow up your account. The math that actually matters is simple:
- How much do you make when you are right?
- How much do you lose when you are wrong?
- Are you making sound decisions each time, regardless of outcome?
A trader who wins 50% of the time but keeps losses small and lets winners run will outperform a trader who wins 70% of the time but cuts winners short and lets losers run. The win rate alone tells you almost nothing.
Profits are a byproduct
This is the shift that separates traders who last from traders who quit. The profit is not the goal. The profit is the result of doing everything else right.
The goal is the process:
- Take trades that fit your written plan.
- Size your positions so no single loss is catastrophic.
- Cut losers when they hit your predefined level. No negotiating.
- Let winners develop without panicking out early.
- Repeat it consistently, every session.
When you treat process as the goal, a losing trade stops feeling like failure. A loss taken at the right size, on a valid setup, at your pre-planned exit is not a mistake. It is the process working exactly as designed.
What this morning looked like
One trade did not work. Three did. I closed the day up over $1,000. None of that was luck. The loss was contained because the position size was right before the trade opened. The winners were allowed to develop because the plan said to hold them, not because I guessed right in the moment.
That is a normal trading day for someone running a process. It would have been a disaster for someone trying to go perfect.
Trading like a business
Businesses do not expect every product to sell, every customer to buy, or every quarter to be a record. They expect the model to work over time. Trading is no different.
Your edge does not show up in one trade. It shows up across hundreds of trades made with discipline and consistent rules. One loss means nothing. A string of undisciplined decisions means everything.
If you are still building that process, the masterclass walks through the full framework I use, from position sizing to trade selection to daily review. And if you want to see the process in action alongside other traders working through the same discipline, check out the 7-day free trial.

Nothing here is financial advice. Trading involves real risk of loss, and no process eliminates that risk. Manage your size, know your exit before you enter, and never trade money you cannot afford to lose.
